MEXICO CITY.- The president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced that as part of the Mexico Plan will develop a supercomputing network with a “super computer“, the largest in Latin America.
During her morning conference this Wednesday, November 19 at the National Palace, Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the agreement will be made with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
Supercomputer will be 100% Mexican
Jorge Luis Pérez Hernándeznational coordinator of Digital Infrastructure, explained projects of the Mexican Supercomputing Center such as meteorological models, image processing for agriculture, customs information analysis and risk models, and language models with artificial intelligence.
The supercomputer It will be 100% Mexican. In addition, it will have a difference with the largest one that is in the south of the continent and “which is not from a government, it is from a private company,” he explained.
He indicated that with a “normal computer” like the one you have at home it is not possible to process the amount of data that is generated today: “We would be solving problems that we already have today until 2028, to mitigate this we have spoken with the Barcelona Supercomputing Center and we are going to start this collaboration to start solving these problems.”

He added that starting next year we could be working together and the data would be protected by the Mexican government and the researchers, “the data would not be under the control of anyone else,” and researchers would be participating, especially from CECIHTI of the National Polytechnic Institute and the Digital Transformation Agency.
Supercomputer is “very important”: Claudia Sheinbaum
Highlighting the relationship with the private initiative, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo assured that this computer is “very important” and clarified that “it is a public center”: “The supercomputer is very important for it to be public.”
He said that while the Mexican Supercomputing Center is being built, the door was opened in Barcelona for Mexican researchers to go there for a while.
José Antonio Peña Merinohead of the Digital Transformation and Telecommunications Agency, highlighted that the Mexican Supercomputing Center It will begin operations in January next year.
