UNITED STATES.- The drug trafficker Joaquín Guzmán Lópezalias The Güeroone of the boss’s sons Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, agreed to plead guilty of at least one charge related to drug trafficking, next Monday before a District Court for Northern Illinois, in the city of Chicago, Mexican media indicated this Friday.
In that same Court his brother Ovidio made a similar decision last July. Joaquín Guzmán López faces, among others, charges for drug trafficking, organized crime and possession of firearms.
In the minutes, the Court specified that the hearing scheduled for next Monday, December 1, has a scheduled time of 1:30 p.m. and will be for Guzmán López to change his initial plea of not guilty.
The notice to the Court occurred during the long Thanksgiving Day weekend in the United States, when there is practically no official activity.
On November 10, it was announced that the Guzmán López hearingleader of Los Chapitos and son of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, was postponed from November 13 to December 1.
The judge overseeing the case, Sharon Johnson Colemanindicated in a document published that day that it is once again postponing the hearing for Guzmán, which would have taken place on Thursday, November 13 in a federal court in Chicago.
This is the third time that this hearing has been postponed, which was already postponed from July 15 to September 15 and from September 15 to November 13.
Ovidio Guzmán pleads guilty in the United States
Last July, Ovidio Guzmán Lópezanother of El Chapo’s sons and Joaquín’s brother, pleaded guilty to four charges related to drug trafficking before a Chicago court as part of an agreement with US authorities whose terms were not disclosed.
Similarly, in August the Mexican drug trafficker Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambadaco-founder and historical leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, formally pleaded guilty to two counts of drug trafficking, money laundering and use of weapons that were against him in a federal court in New York.
