The ISSSTE offers various alternatives that aim to ensure entitlement at various stages, such as the Stays for Child Welfare and Development (EBDI), the Day Homes, the Coexistence Center for Pensioners and Retirees “Convive”, and the Center for Studies and Support for the Elderly (CEAAM).
Mexico City, November 5 (However).- On the occasion of the International Day of Caregiverswhich is commemorated on this day, Institute of Security and Social Services of State Workers (ISSSTE), led by general director Martí Batres Guadarrama, recognized the work of those who assist individuals who need support due to a disability, illness, dependency or age.
María Cristina Jacuinde Villaseñorcoordinator of the ISSSTE Day House in Morelia, Michoacán, stressed that the importance of this profession lies in giving assistance to vulnerable people in basic activities of daily living, such as hygiene, mobility, feeding, medication, emotional and social support, home management and health supervision.
“Their main job is to support the activities of vulnerable people, in food, transportation, cleaning, entertainment and, also, to be a social and emotional support in the daily actions they carry out,” he highlighted.

At the same time, he emphasized that the Institute provides various services that aim to ensure entitlement, such as the Stays for Child Welfare and Development (EBDI), the Day Homes, the Coexistence Center for Pensioners and Retirees “Convive”, and the Center for Studies and Support of the Elderly (CEAAM), to provide gerontological support, physical, emotional and social support.
“We, as ISSSTE, offer recreation, sports, social and cultural activities; they are given with one main objective: to allow them to have better health. And what does that imply? That the older adult or the young person with disabilities has a space,” he commented.
He also detailed that the ISSSTE Day House in Morelia, Michoacán, offers from Monday to Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., cultural activities such as drawing, choir, oil and fabric painting, jewelry, among others, as well as sports: tai chi, Latin rhythms, ballroom dancing, physical activation, cachibol and yoga.


“In one day we serve between 120 to 130 people, our staff of instructors is 17 instructors, plus the interdisciplinary team. As for students, per month we serve around 700 to 740 students, including older adults, people with disabilities, some beneficiaries and family members,” he said.
Jacuinde Villaseñor added that, on the Second Floor of the Fourth Transformation, headed by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, there has been full and total support for the Day House.
“It has really been very gratifying and motivating for us to know that our authorities at the national and central level are so close to us; it motivates us to give even more than 100 percent to care for our elderly, our caregivers; take care of our children, our people with disabilities,” he concluded.
