After almost seven years at the head of the Attorney General’s Office, Alejandro Gertz Manero presented his resignation amid a history marked by emblematic investigations that did not reach a sentence, files that weakened over time and criticism of the paralysis of the institution. Through a letter addressed to Laura Itzel Castillo Juárez, president of the Senate of the RepublicGertz Manero reported that he is separating from his position as Attorney General after accepting President Claudia Sheinbaum’s invitation to be Ambassador to another country, which he did not specify.

“I inform you that the Head of the Federal Executive Branch, Doctor Claudia Sehinbaum Pardo, has proposed me as Ambassador of Mexico to a friendly country, which is being processed at this time. This proposal will allow me the possibility of continuing to serve my country in a new task that I am honored and grateful for; thus ratifying my vocation of public service with such a long history; which is why, as of this date and with all the corresponding legal effects, I am retiring from my current position as Prosecutor of the Republic.”

Alejandro Gertz asked the president of the Senate to inform the plenary session of the upper house of her decision so that the process of his ratification as Ambassador can begin.

“The above, with the aspiration of obtaining ratification of the appointment with which the President of the United Mexican States has honored me and thus being able to serve the interests of Mexico with commitment, responsibility and in strict observance of a foreign policy representative of the plurality of the Mexican State.”

Alejando Gertz Manero said this morning that the letter from Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada asks that Mexico assist him in the extradition process from the United States, but the Attorney General of the Republic recalled that it is an obligation of the Mexican State to accompany a detainee abroad and request that he be sent to national territory if he has pending justice here.Alejando Gertz Manero said this morning that the letter from Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada asks that Mexico assist him in the extradition process from the United States, but the Attorney General of the Republic recalled that it is an obligation of the Mexican State to accompany a detainee abroad and request that he be sent to national territory if he has pending justice here.
