Residents of the municipality of Uruapan, Michoacán, demanded justice for the crime of Mayor Carlos Manzo Rodríguez, murdered on Saturday after attending a public event, and asked for the resignation of President Claudia Sheinbaum.
Hundreds of family members, sympathizers and residents of Uruapan accompanied the mayor’s funeral procession from the “San José” funeral home to the main square of the city, where last Saturday the mayor was shot dead.

“Claudia out! Claudia murderer! Morena out!” were the slogans that people shouted during the five-kilometer journey with the body of Mayor Manzo Rodríguez.
Grecia Quiroz, Manzo’s wife, called on the people of Uruapan to continue his fight and defend Mexico, in the face of the attacks of organized crime and the lack of support from the Federal Government.
“Today I tell the people of Uruapan that we do not give up, that we unite, that we rise up as he would have liked, that we fight, that we defend our children tooth and nail, that we defend that Uruapan of before, that we defend our homeland, because he would have been the best president of Mexico,” he expressed.
Manzo’s widow called on parents to educate their children to prevent them from getting involved in organized crime, remembering that the mother of the hitman killed by her husband’s bodyguard is also suffering.
“Yesterday not only he died; two died, and at the end of the day she is another mother who is crying at home today. She is another mother who perhaps, if she had educated her son, would have given him love, would have given him affection, would have guided him along that good path, perhaps that son would not have made an attempt on my Carlos’s life,” he explained.
The councilor’s body was transferred to the Catholic temple of San Francisco de Asís, where a mass was held, to later continue with the funeral.

The mayor was murdered on Saturday night in the main square of Uruapan, when he was hanging out with hundreds of residents at the traditional Candle Festival, as part of the commemoration of the Night of the Dead.
Manzo Rodríguez died after being shot six times by a hitman who was killed, while two other gunmen were arrested.
Carlos Manzo won the mayoralty of Uruapan in the 2024 electoral process, as an independent candidate. This year, the politician asked Claudia Sheinbaum on several occasions for support to confront organized crime in Uruapan, the second most economically important municipality in Mexico.
Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, assured this Sunday that Manzo had federal and municipal protection since 2024, which was reinforced at the beginning of this year.
In turn, Claudia Sheinbaum condemned the crime “with absolute firmness” and assured that there will be no impunity.
Just last October 8, Manzo called on both not to withdraw the National Guard from the municipality, since the agents had only been in the area for a few days.
