Neighbors of the subdivision Great Causeway of Umán they reported that the works related to the installation of the natural gas booster of the gas pipeline located near their homes continued for much of yesterday, despite the fact that a federal judge ordered them to be provisionally suspended as of Wednesday afternoon.
“The suspension was granted from the day before yesterday at 6 in the afternoon, but at 11 in the morning and at noon yesterday they were still working. We have evidence that at 2 in the afternoon they stopped using the machinery,” he said. Abner Torresone of the affected neighbors.
Last month, the Diary reported that the residents of that subdivision were living in uncertainty due to the possibility that the gas pipeline adjacent to the patios of their houses could explode and cause a tragedy. Given this, concerned for their safety and that of their families, on October 19, they held a protest in front of the Government Palace to demand the cessation of construction of a gas pipeline in the vicinity of their homes.
Today, the problem persists, since according to the inhabitants, the work has not yet stopped.
According to Abner Torres, The order was issued by the Judge Mercedes del Sol Hernández Cetina, of the Third District Court in Yucatánwho granted the provisional suspension within a protection filed by the residents of the area, who later learned of the notification around 6:15 pm on Wednesday and it was made public yesterday at 7 am.
The court resolution ordered immediately stop the installation and operation of the natural gas boosteruntil the competent authorities reported and accredited the legality of the project, as well as its possible environmental impacts.
Company ignores judicial resolution
However, neighbors assure that The company in charge of the work ignored the resolution.
“They are totally going against the law, a court order. The justification was that they had not been notified, but there are rulings from the Supreme Court that establish that they must stop immediately, without the need for notification,” Torres explained.
Neighbors claim that the noise from the machinery continued yesterday morning. “You could hear them lifting pipes, putting them in the ground, as if they had every intention of leaving everything ready so as not to get late or bother us.”
Abner Torres announced that the neighbors will remain organized and continue documenting the situation while they wait for judicial instructions.
“Now we are going to agree on more documentation, wait for a second indication from Judge Mercedes del Sol Hernández Cetina, and ask for a complete suspension,” he explained.
The goal is still to relocate the booster.
He also pointed out that they will evaluate the legal means to request fines from the institutions that did not comply with the suspension, since almost 24 hours passed between the issuance of the protection and the stoppage of work. “The protection was only illusory on paper because it was not executed.”
“This is going to be a very important test to really see democracy. The PJudicial power “It was reformed, now there are people who are there who come from the people, by the people and for the people, and we trust that they will respond to the people in the face of the violation of our human rights.”
