PROGRESS.— Within the framework of the celebrations of the “Animas of the Sea”, the Paseo de las Ánimas and an exhibition of altars were held at the Chicxulub police station.
The event, which took place the night before last Tuesday, included the participation of students from the “Andrés Quintana Roo” primary school in their morning and afternoon shifts, as well as from the special education school of this police station.
The participants dressed as Mayan souls and from other entities such as Oaxaca and Tabasco walked the streets of the port.
The route ranged from the municipal cemetery to the covered basketball court located in the Center, where the display of altars was made.
During the event, teacher Nidia Pech read a remembrance of past times at the police station, remembering the deceased who in their time carried out actions that helped the development of Chicxulub Puerto, from shopkeepers to the promoters of the first transportation system that connected the police station with Progreso through roads.
The municipal police station recalled the memory of the former commissioner of Chicxulub, William Figueroa Castillo (Chalana), as one of the promoters of tourism in the town on the topic of dinosaurs and their story with the meteorite that caused their extinction.
A family member received a posthumous recognition, since this celebration of souls coincided with his first death anniversary.
Subsequently, a children’s and youth party group known as “Los Mesticitos de la Asunción” enlivened the evening with regional dances, which received applause from the public.
Finally, the presidium took a tour of the exposed altars where the students gave an explanation of them, which concluded the evening of the final stretch of “Las Ánimas del Mar”.
The last event in this saga will take place next Saturday the 8th at the Chelem police station, with “The Last Goodbye”: a mystical tour that will begin at 7 pm, starting at the park kiosk and ending in the estuary, with an emotional farewell over the sea.— Abraham Ismael Raz Herrera
