On Monday evening, Washington and Kiev praised the progress of the ongoing negotiations to end the Russian war on Ukraine, while Russia said that the Europeans presented an unconstructive plan.
The White House confirmed that President Donald Trump remains optimistic about the possibility of reaching an agreement in Ukraine.
He acknowledged that there are “some points of disagreement in the proposed plan regarding Ukraine,” as “our teams continue to work on them.”
The White House stressed that “it is not possible to continue selling weapons to NATO to send to Ukraine while Trump wants to end the war.”
But the White House denied the accusations directed at Trump, especially from within the Republican Party, that he was biased toward Russia in his efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine.
Presidential spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said that marketing “the idea that the United States of America is not working with both sides on an equal footing to end this war is completely wrong.”
Levitt added that Trump expressed “optimism and hope” that he could work on a plan to end this war, which began with a Russian invasion of Ukraine.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said, “There are no longer 28 items from the American peace plan, and many of the correct things have been taken into account in the new formula.”
“Now the list of steps necessary to end the war can become implementable,” he added.
Also, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine said that Kiev and Washington have demonstrated the ability to produce a workable peace document.
Talks are continuing in Geneva between American, Ukrainian and European officials regarding stopping the war in Ukraine.
These talks were held emergencyly the day before yesterday, Sunday, based on Trump’s 28-item plan to stop the war.
Germany stressed the need for Russia’s participation in the negotiations related to the peace plan in Ukraine.
Chancellor Friedrich Merz said, “Russia must be present at the (negotiating) table,” but he ruled out achieving diplomatic progress this week.
For its part, the Kremlin said that the European proposal corresponding to the American plan is not constructive and does not suit Russia.
