British police announced yesterday evening, Saturday, the arrest of two men after a series of stabbing incidents on a train near Cambridge in eastern England, while Prime Minister Keir Starmer described it as a “horrific incident.”
British Transport Police said in a statement on the “X” platform that officers responded to a report of a stabbing incident on board a train that was on its way to Huntingdon, where a number of passengers were stabbed.
Cambridgeshire Police, the local police force, explained that the accident occurred at 7:39 pm local time (Greenwich Mean Time), and an armed police unit was called to Huntingdon Station, which is about 120 kilometers north of London.

She added that the train was stopped and two men were arrested, while the injured were taken to the hospital to receive treatment. The police have not announced the number of injured or the nature of their injuries yet.
Video clips posted on social media showed the moments when armed police entered the train, amid a state of panic among passengers.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the incident as extremely “worrying” and expressed his solidarity with the victims, writing on the “X” platform: “Our prayers are for all those affected, and I extend my thanks to the emergency services for their rapid response to this horrific accident.”
For his part, Paul Bristow, Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, described the scenes inside the train as “horrific”, calling for strengthening security measures on public transport.
The police continue to investigate the circumstances of the incident, while the possible motives behind the attack and whether it is linked to any criminal or terrorist backgrounds have not yet been announced.
