Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said on Monday that Israel must stop its repeated violations of the ceasefire in Gaza, noting that there are ongoing discussions about sending UN military forces to the Gaza Strip.
This came after a ministerial meeting hosted in Istanbul, with the participation of foreign ministers from Arab and Islamic countries, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, Jordan, Pakistan and Indonesia, to discuss developments in the situation in Gaza and ways to support the ceasefire.
Fidan confirmed that Israel has killed about 250 Palestinians since reaching the ceasefire agreement, noting that these violations hamper peace efforts and exacerbate the humanitarian crisis. He said, “Any action that undermines the agreement or obstructs its implementation must not be allowed, and Israel must abide by its pledges regarding the delivery of aid.”
The Turkish minister explained that the Hamas movement is ready to hand over the administration of Gaza to a committee formed by the Palestinians, stressing the need for the Palestinians to take over the administration of the Strip as soon as possible.
Regarding international efforts, Fidan revealed the continuation of discussions regarding sending a UN military force to Gaza, saying, “We are ready to bear responsibility, but we are waiting to determine the legal framework and standards necessary for this force.”
He added that Ankara wants to end the suffering and killing in Gaza as soon as possible, but it rejects any international guardianship over the Strip, stressing that Türkiye will make its decision based on the nature and definition of this force.
The Turkish Foreign Minister explained that the countries participating in the meeting expressed their willingness to contribute to an international force, in accordance with their national laws, stressing the importance of coordination among Islamic countries to ensure that the ceasefire turns into lasting peace.
As called Fidan To continue consultations in international platforms, led by the United Nations, to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including the two-state solution.
Today, the special meeting on Gaza was launched in Istanbul, hosted by Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and attended by foreign ministers of Arab and Islamic countries.
Israel is renewing its violations in Gaza of the ceasefire agreement, which came two years after the war of extermination that left more than 68,000 Palestinian martyrs and more than 170,000 wounded, and caused damage to about 90% of the civilian infrastructure in the Strip, with initial losses amounting to 70 billion dollars.
