The White House launched a page on its website called the “Hall of Shame” to defame media outlets and journalists who publish reports that US President Donald Trump does not agree with.

Under the title “Misleading, Biased, Exposed” at the top of the page, the site described the media organizations, The Boston Globe, CBS News, and The Independent, as the offending media this week, for claiming to distort Trump’s call for the execution of 6 Democratic members of Congress due to a video clip in which he said that military personnel should not follow illegal orders.

The site included a “list of violators” that included the Washington Post, CBS News, CNN, and MSNBC, and the page also included an invitation to register for a newsletter to send weekly updates refuting what the White House sees as lies.

The page displays a database of news reports, the names of the journalists who wrote them, and categories of violations, classified under the headings (bias, lying, and left-wing madness).

The new page on the White House website is the latest expression of Trump’s attacks on the mainstream media, some of which include ongoing lawsuits against the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times, high-profile settlements with ABC and CBS, and a series of insults at news organizations he has long called “enemies of the people.”

Continuous insults to journalists

In recent weeks, Trump directed a series of personal insults to female journalist correspondents, as he responded by saying, “Shut up, you pig,” to a Bloomberg correspondent on November 14, after she asked him a question aboard Air Force One, a comment that White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt defended in a press conference.

Days later, the president called the ABC correspondent a “bad person and a bad reporter” and her network “fake news.”

In a post on Truth Social last Wednesday, Trump described a New York Times reporter as a “third-rate reporter who is ugly internally and externally,” and described the CBS News correspondent as a “stupid person” while responding to her questions about the shooting of two National Guard members in Washington, and specifically about the government of former President Joe Biden’s scrutiny of the files of Afghan refugees to the United States.

Other media outlets criticized by the White House website include the Associated Press, ABC, the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and Fox News.

Trump’s problem with those who do not praise him

Seth Stern, director at the Freedom of the Press Foundation, said Trump made clear that his problem is not with media bias, but rather with “journalists who don’t praise him or repeat his lies.”

“People recognize the obvious inconsistency of a presidential administration appointing itself as arbiter of media bias, and I expect that after the initial wave of propaganda, few Americans will care about this latest trick, as it is beginning to lose its effectiveness,” he added.
