First implemented in March of this year, the Violet Policewhich specializes in addressing cases of gender violence, reinforces actions focused on guaranteeing the safety, well-being and rights of women in the Iztacalco Mayor’s Office.
This program represents a firm step towards the consolidation of a public policy with a human and gender focus, aimed at preventing, addressing and eradicating violence against women, girls, adolescents and vulnerable groups.
Made up exclusively of women from the Auxiliary Police, the Violet Police has more than 10 elements and three patrols—one for each sector: Lancal, Iztakcul and Pantitlan—, which allows broader coverage and a timely response throughout the territory of the demarcation. Since its creation, it has provided 33 direct supports to women at risk, mainly addressing cases of family violence, stalking, harassment and physical attacks.
The mayor Lourdes Paz He highlighted that with the creation and strengthening of the Violet Police, Iztacalco is moving towards a security model with a human and gender focus: “For the first time we have a Violet Police that takes care of us all. Our priority is to build a safe Iztacalco, free of violence and with equal opportunities for all women,” he stated.
Although its work focuses on the protection of women, the Violet Police also provides support to anyone who is a victim of gender violence, including men who are at risk or vulnerable, consolidating itself as a comprehensive care model based on empathy and respect for human rights.
Their work focuses on offering immediate and personalized attention, accompanying victims throughout the entire process, from the emergency report to their referral to specialized agencies or safe shelters. The units operate in coordination with Base Plata, the local emergency center of Iztacalco that receives reports through the *911 and *765, as well as with the Secretariat of Citizen Security of Mexico City, which guarantees a quick and efficient response to each case.

The members of the Violet Police receive training in gender perspective, care for victims, human rights and action protocols in cases of violence, with the aim of offering an empathetic, professional and effective service.
Although the Violet Police have only been in operation for a few months, the officers recognize that there is still a lack of dissemination so that more women know about their services and trust in this specialized group. For this reason, information sessions, distribution of materials and talks on human rights, the violence meter and reporting channels are held. “We want them to know that there is a Violet Police in Iztacalco, made up of women prepared to listen to them and support them. Our goal is that no woman feels alone in a situation of violence,” said one of the officers.
In each action, the Violet Police demonstrate that security is also built with sensitivity, support and trust. Its presence in the streets of Iztacalco symbolizes the commitment to provide real and timely protection to those who face situations of violence, moving towards a more supportive and safe community for everyone.
