The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced on Monday that revenge for the assassination of Hezbollah military commander Haitham Tabatabai is “a reserved right,” noting that the response to Israel “will be overwhelming and at its scheduled time.”

The Revolutionary Guard said, in a statement, that “the resistance axis and Hezbollah Lebanon reserve the right to retaliate for the blood of the brave fighters of Islam,” stressing that the assassination of Al-Tabtabai in the southern suburb of Beirut “will not go unpunished.”

The statement added that the axis of resistance “possesses the ability and will to deter the Zionist enemy,” stressing that the military option is “strongly on the table.”

The Revolutionary Guards’ statement comes in light of escalating regional tension and open possibilities for a new escalation between Israel and Hezbollah, amid international warnings of a widening circle of confrontation.

Haitham Al-Tabtabai is one of the most prominent leaders of Hezbollah’s military wing. He was killed on Sunday in an Israeli air strike that targeted a crowded residential area south of the Lebanese capital, Beirut.

During the past week, the Israeli army intensified its strikes on targets in Lebanon, announcing the bombing of Hezbollah missile launchers and weapons depots.
