Palestinian prisoner affairs institutions announced – today, Sunday – the martyrdom of prisoner Mahmoud Abdullah from Jenin camp in the occupied West Bank in the Israeli Assaf Harofeh Hospital, after his health condition deteriorated in the occupation prisons.

Prisoners’ institutions said – in a press statement – that the occupation forces arrested Mahmoud (49 years old) from Jenin camp, on February 1, 2025, and his health condition deteriorated rapidly following his arrest, and it was later discovered that he had cancer in an advanced stage.

She explained that Mahmoud was transferred between several prisons, from Megiddo to Gilboa and then to the Ramla prison clinic, without providing the necessary treatment, despite medical examinations confirming the seriousness of his health condition.

Despite demands to release him on humanitarian grounds, the occupation authorities refused to do so and continued to detain him until his condition deteriorated sharply.

According to prisoners’ institutions, Mahmoud was transferred to Assaf Harofeh Hospital just one day before his martyrdom, in light of repeated accusations against Israel of adopting a policy of deliberate medical neglect against sick prisoners.

It is noteworthy that the martyr Mahmoud is a former prisoner who was arrested during the Al-Aqsa Intifada in 2002. He spent two years in the occupation prisons, and was suffering from chronic health problems before his recent arrest, as he was prevented from completing his treatment.

With the martyrdom of Mahmoud, the number of martyrs among Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons has risen to 79 martyrs since the start of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, and the crime of enforced disappearance includes dozens of other detainees in occupation prisons.
