Yesterday, Thursday, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced that Internal Security in Tartous, west of the country, had arrested what it described as a “terrorist cell” led by an arm of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
Ministry spokesman Nour al-Din al-Baba said that the security forces arrested the so-called Abdul Ghani Qassab, who is one of the arms of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, noting that “a number of his disciples and sons were also arrested after large quantities of weapons and ammunition were seized.”
The Pope stated that the search for the so-called Katsab began on the first day of the liberation of the city of Aleppo as part of the operation to deter aggression, which began on November 27, 2024.
He added that Qassab had been working for more than 4 decades in coordination with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, adding that “Qassab was presenting himself as someone with spiritual immunity and divine revelation, claiming that he was the reforming Mahdi at the end of time.”
According to the Pope, “the activities of the so-called Katsab previously focused on attracting young people in high school and university,” pledging to reveal “the foreign connections of the so-called Katsab later.”
In addition to Qassab being one of Iran’s most important ideological arms in the city of Aleppo, he ran a recruitment center for it in the Adhamiyah neighborhood, and through it he carried out security activities on behalf of Iran and the defunct regime against the Syrians, according to the Pope.
Tehran did not issue any immediate comment on what the Syrian Interior Ministry reported regarding its relationship with the cell that was seized in Tartous.

Details about the process
During the past hours, the Syrian Ministry of Interior said that internal security units in Tartous Governorate, yesterday evening, Wednesday, arrested an outlaw armed group linked to the remnants of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
The Director of Internal Security in Tartous, Colonel Abdel-Al Abdel-Al, stated that the specific operation was carried out in the Sheikh Badr area in the governorate’s countryside, and resulted in the seizure of large quantities of various weapons and ammunition, in addition to documents and digital seizures related to the group’s activities, noting that all of its members were arrested during the operation.
Abdel-Al explained that preliminary investigations revealed the involvement of the group’s members in carrying out hostilities and assassination crimes against more than twenty civilians, in addition to their participation in fighting alongside the former regime within sectarian militias supported by external parties, in addition to their recruitment of youth and children to serve external agendas.
Colonel Abdel-Al concluded by noting that the seized items were completely confiscated, and the detainees were referred to the competent authorities to follow up on investigations in preparation for referring them to the judiciary in accordance with legal procedures.
A few days ago, the Ministry of Interior announced the dismantling of a “terrorist cell” in Tartous Governorate, linked to the remnants of the former regime and involved in carrying out “terrorist” acts that threaten the security of the state and the stability of citizens.
Abdel-Al said, in a statement published by the ministry at the time, that the security units carried out a security operation that resulted in the arrest of “Ghaleb Saleh, Haidar Shaddad, and Muhammad Rafiq,” who are from the village of Al-Asibiya in the Baniyas countryside.
Since the overthrow of the Assad regime on December 8, 2024, the Syrian security services have arrested many officers, militia leaders, and former officials involved in crimes against Syrians.
