In Skiatook, Oklahoma, the animal rescue organization Skiatook Paws and Claws Animal Rescue (SPACAR) has temporarily stopped accepting new dogs. The reason for this is an acute shortage of space caused by a dramatic decline in adoptions in recent months. Another problem SPACAR faces is the lack of volunteers. Despite hiring new animal care employees, managers must ask daily for volunteers to cover open shifts. Caring for the dogs requires around-the-clock care, and teams need support with both the daily care and employment of the animals.
Donations are also welcome as they help ensure the animals are provided with food, medicine and shelter, as well as pay staff salaries. On Sunday, the organization will be open for walk-in adoptions from noon to 4 p.m. Interested parties can apply online in advance to speed up the adoption process.
