This Friday morning, the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, reacted to the triumph of Fátima Bosch, from Tabasco who last night took the crown of the 74th edition of Miss Universe, whose closing was held in Thailand.

At a press conference, when questioned on the subject, the President applauded that Bosch was the winner of the contest, and indicated that she liked it because “she does not stay silent.”

“Beyond the contest itself and so on, which can be talked about at another time, I liked her that she raises her voice when she feels there is an injustice. And that is an example. Courage. Yes, for all Mexicans. And for women too”said the head of the federal Executive.

Sheinbaum thus referred to the incident recorded weeks before the final, in which the general director of Miss Universe Thailand, Nawat Itsaragrisil, insulted the Mexican model for not sharing publications on networks about the country, in an act that was broadcast live. The incident generated a wave of criticism against the Thai, who later apologized.

In this context, the President rejected the saying that “quiet women look prettier.”

“I say at the rallies, that thing they said is behind us, quiet you look prettier, women look prettier when we speak and when we participate. And she raises her voice, she says, there is an injustice, I don’t think so, she gets up, leaves, they have to apologize to her and she ends up winning the contest. So… it is an example that when there is an injustice, and particularly for women, you have to raise your voice,” she concluded.
