The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, This Wednesday, he expressed his rejection of the announcement by the United States Department of Transportation that it revoked Mexican airline routes. from the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) towards US territory and assured that there is no reason for this decision.
“The AIFA is working well and there is no reason to limit flights to the United States,” the President said during her morning conference.
Sheinbaum asked the US authorities to respect the sovereign decision of the Mexican Government to move cargo flights from Mexico City International Airport (AICM) to AIFA.
“We also say it with complete certainty: Mexico is no one’s piñata. Mexico is respected,” he emphasized.

The President was blunt in assuring that her government does not agree with the decision of the US Department of Transportation and recalled that the transfer of cargo operations was a “sovereign decision”, based on security and civil protection reasons, due to the saturation of the capital’s airport.
“The international airport in Mexico City was very saturated (…) putting passengers at risk. “That is why the AIFA was built and the decision was made to move the dedicated cargo for security reasons,” he stated.
The President assured that all companies, including American ones, “They are happy” with the operation at the AIFA and that there is no impact on competition.
“There is not a single claim from any company,” he said, while asking the new National Antitrust Commission (CNA) to carry out an analysis on the issue.
Sheinbaum reported that he instructed Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente to request a meeting with US authorities, including the State Department, to review the decision and its rationale.

“I asked the chancellor to contact Secretary Marco Rubio to ask for a meeting in the United States where the Department of Transportation would participate. to check if they have foundation, which from our perspective they have none”he pointed out.
Sheinbaum added that his Government maintains a relationship of “good understanding” with the president of the United States, Donald Trump and hoped to resolve the dispute through dialogue.
The President announced that this Friday she will meet with representatives of Aeroméxico, VivaAerobus and Volaris to find out his position on the restrictions and that he will seek a meeting with US officials next week, once they return from a tour in Asia.
