This Thursday, teachers from the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE) They demonstrated in front of the National Palace during “La Mañanera” by President Claudia Sheinbaum. Given these mobilizations, The President did not know the reason why the teachers are demonstrating.
“How if there is an open dialogue table and work is being done in Oaxaca, Chiapas, Guerrero and other states, do they want to use violence to reach the National Palace?“, the President asked during the morning conference. This questioning by Sheinbaum arises after last May, the Government of Mexico announced a series of labor improvements, such as a 9% increase in the teachers’ union salary and more vacation days, among other agreements.

The CNTE maintains mobilizations in CDMX
The CNTE, however, continues to demand the immediate repeal of the ISSSTE Law and the 2019 educational reform, in addition to better conditions for rural schools.
“In the case of the ISSSTE law, of which they request the repeal, different options have been raised that we continue to work on, but the resource is not available to be able to carry out this repeal. The pension fund for well-being has already been created and other options are being worked on“said Sheinbaum.
The protesters, who arrived at Mexico City’s Zócalo as part of the 48-hour strike, tried to tear down the fences, which caused moments of tension with the capital’s police officers, who fired gas at them. After not being able to access the center, the teachers moved to the Chamber of Deputies where they will hold a sit-in.
