Several people were stabbed this evening (1 November) on a train heading to Huntingdon, in Cambridgeshire, in the east of England. The incident occurred in the early evening, leading to the immediate mobilization of dozens of British Transport Police (BTP) officers and emergency teams.
According to authorities, two men were detained at the scene after a warning from passengers. There is still no confirmation on the number of victims or the severity of the injuries, but it is known that several people were treated at the scene.
Cambridge Police issued a statement saying they had received reports that several people had been stabbed inside a train.
“Armed officers attended the scene and the convoy was stopped in Huntingdon, where two men were arrested. Several people were taken to hospital”says the statement.
“The incident is still ongoing and the A1307 road has been closed on the approach to the city centre.”
The attack took place on an LNER (London North Eastern Railway) train. The company confirmed that all lines are currently blocked due to police intervention and asked passengers to avoid travelling.
“We are facing serious disruption across the LNER network. Emergency services are dealing with an incident in Huntingdon. Our advice is clear: do not travel. Postpone your trip whenever possible,” the company wrote in a statement published on the X network (formerly Twitter).
More than 30 armed agents were deployed to the station and the train, in a large-scale operation, as seen in some videos published on social media.
