The official dates: SEP 2025-2026 calendar
The Ministry of Public Education (SEP) officially announced the dates with the publication of its calendar before the start of the current school year, confirming that these winter vacations will extend for almost three full weeks, which is positive for millions of students and teachers throughout the country:
- Last day of classes: Friday, December 19, 2025
- Start of Christmas holidays: Monday, December 22, 2025
- End of vacation: Tuesday, January 6, 2026
Why will winter holidays last so long?
Although the holiday period traditionally ends on Three Kings’ Day, January 6, The effective return to the classrooms will be until later. This extension in the break is due to the training of teachers, as indicated by the SEP itself.
January 7, 8 and 9 will be entirely dedicated to Intensive Continuing Training Workshops for Teachers.
Since teachers will be busy with this intensive training, basic education students will not have activities in schools during those dates. This means that the return to the classrooms will be until Monday, January 12, 2026. a perfect and prolonged time to enjoy the celebrations of Christmas, New Year and even the Rosca de Reyes.
