The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development announced that the Official Veterinary Services (SVO) of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Spain, reported the detection of two wild boars positive for the African swine fever (ASF) virus, in the municipality of Cerdanyola del Vallès in Barcelona.
Due to the above, the National Agri-Food Health, Safety and Quality Service (Sensica) suspended the import of products of pork origin that come from Spain, while they receive updates on animal health information on the response to the outbreak.
This case of African swine fever is the first to occur in Spain since 1994.

The decision to stop the importation of this type of meat, according to a statement, was made with the purpose of avoiding animal health risks in national pork production.
The suspension includes the entry of pork, products and by-products such as hams or sausages, matured products, pork offal suitable for human consumption, as well as raw material for the production of pet food.
Finally, the ban will affect commercial imports and the products carried by tourists who enter national territory.
