The Day of the Dead, one of the most significant traditions of our country and the favorite of many, is about to happen, and as part of the tradition, It is customary to visit deceased relatives in cemeteries and bring them music, flowers and food, generating an atmosphere of celebration and nostalgia.

This weekend falls on November 1 and 2, very important dates for Mexicans, since, during these days, the death of family, friends and loved ones is celebrated, waiting for the deceased to return at night to visit their homes and taste your favorite foods.

Why are the cemeteries visited on the Day of the Dead?

As already mentioned, many families go to the cemeteries to decorate the tombs with marigold flowers, candles, papel picado, typical food, objects of the deceased, altars for the dead and to remember those who are no longer with us. Paths are also usually drawn with candles and flower petals so that souls can find their way.

What will be the schedule of the pantheons on the Day of the Dead?

The pantheons close depending on the place, however, During these dates it is common for them to extend closing hoursso that people can enjoy a traditional night.

Below, we leave you the hours of some pantheons both in the City and in the State of Mexico.

  • Civil Pantheon of Dolores:

It is the largest and oldest cemetery in CDMX. They have not yet shared their official schedule, however, in previous years they extended visiting hours. It usually closes at 5:00 p.m.

Day of the Dead hours are from 7:00 am to 10:00 pmtentatively.

Located in the Benito Juárez neighborhood, Their hours on these dates will be from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm

Located in the State of Mexico, this cemetery will offer several activities related to the holiday. Likewise, it will have two different schedules.

  • November 1: from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
  • November 2: from 7:00 am to 5:30 pm
