Sugarcane producers distance themselves from the possible national strike

The National Union of Sugarcane Producers (UNPCA), through leader Javier Sánchez, He distanced himself from the protests held yesterday from the country’s capital and assured that Mexican sugar cane producers will not participate in the next mobilizations, nor in the national strike called by dissident groups in the sector. He stressed that their demands have already been addressed through the new tariff agreement.

Sánchez assured that the organization he heads, which brings together at least 98% of the country’s cane producers, accepted the new agreement of the federal government, published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, which establishes that all sugar imports will pay a tax of 156% on its value, which in practice will make the foreign product more expensive.

If a ton costs 7 thousand pesos in the world market, the importer will have to pay 11 thousand more tax. With logistics and profit, the final cost would exceed 20 thousand pesos per ton or 20 pesos per kilo. With this they no longer give the numbers to marketers“explained the leader, who trusted that the measure will stabilize national prices and give certainty to the sector after months of losses.
