The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, asked the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) to report if there is an investigation against the owner of Miss Universe, Raúl Rocha Cantú.
“If there is an investigation of this person, then the Prosecutor’s Office has to inform. Today it is in the media, but it has to be informed”said the president during her morning press conference.
Sheinbaum’s reaction occurs after a newspaper published this Wednesday that the owner of the Miss Universe pageant, Raúl Rocha Cantú, was charged by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for his alleged responsibility in the trafficking of drugs, weapons and fuel between Guatemala and Mexico.

According to the newspaper, Rocha Cantú is considered by the Prosecutor’s Office to be one of the leaders of a criminal organization dedicated to fuel smuggling that crosses the Usumacinta River in boats and is transported in pipes from Chiapas and Tabasco to Querétaro.
Since 2022, Rocha has been honorary consul of Guatemala in Mexico.
Sheinbaum defends Fátima Bosch
Sheinbaum stressed that the possible legal process against Rocha Cantú should not be mixed with the recent participation of Fátima Bosch, a Mexican representative who won the title of Miss Universe 2025 on November 21, since – he assured – an attempt has been made to link both issues to detract from the young woman’s performance.
“Now that is independent of the young woman who won the contest, because they want to put it together. It’s different, right? But then they want to take away the merit,” he stated.
The President highlighted that, beyond the divided opinions on beauty pageants, it is appropriate to recognize the achievement of the Mexican contestant.

“I repeat, regardless of whether we agree with these contests or not (we must give) credit to whoever has it, in the contest,” he said.
However, he insisted that the matter related to the businessman must be clarified by the competent authorities.
“Now, something very different, because it is this issue of this person and there, well, if there is an investigation, then let it be said that there is an investigation and let the Prosecutor’s Office report it”held.
Sheinbaum did not refer to the content of the alleged investigation, but reiterated that it is exclusively up to the Prosecutor’s Office to confirm or deny the journalistic versions.
