The Portuguese Government is not satisfied with the long-term budget proposed by the European Commission, the Minister of Foreign Affairs said this Wednesday (5 November) in parliament, who anticipated “a relentless fight” for a “more balanced” proposal.
“Our concerns are: cohesion policy, common agricultural policy, outermost regions”commented Paulo Rangel, during the parliamentary hearing on the State Budget for 2026.
“We are very attentive, we are not satisfied”said the official, noting that cohesion-friendly countries advocate changes.
Furthermore, Lisbon sees the European Parliament as “an ally”, as this institution’s reaction to the proposal for the Multiannual Financial Framework 2028-2034 is “very much in line with the concerns” of the Portuguese State.
“We will have a relentless fight to the end in order to make the proposal that came from the European Commission more fair and balanced”said Paulo Rangel.
Known in July, the European Union’s (EU) long-term budget proposal until 2034 foresees two billion euros, above the 1.2 billion in the current framework, which includes more national contributions and new taxes.
