In the center of Rome, part of a medieval tower collapsed on the morning of Monday, November 3rd. At least one person was hospitalized in serious condition, according to the Italian press.
At 29 meters, the Torre dei Conti, which is located next to the Roman Forum, close to the Colosseum, was built in the 13th century and was undergoing restoration work when the building partially collapsed.
During the rescue work, a second collapse occurred, explains the Italian news agency Ansa.
“I was outside waiting tables when I heard a noise. I looked up and saw a worker falling,” a witness told Corriere della Sera. According to the newspaper, four workers were rescued, with one still under the rubble.
The seriously injured person is a 64-year-old man who was taken to hospital in critical condition due to a head injury.
