One month after the assassination of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzothe indignation, the demand for justice and peace remain firm. This crime has not only plunged Michoacán into mourning, but has exposed a reality: organized crime coexists and governs alongside some authorities, according to complaints from activists and specialists.
Despite the progress, the investigation has not yet touched the political lines indicated by the family and the Hat Movement.

can defend himself, I will be here to do it” Grecia Quiroz García Mayor of Uruapan. These days they have wanted to hang me on everything: That I do have affairs, that I hid

Juan Daniel Manzo, brother of the mayor, insisted this weekend that the authorities should not cover up anyone and should exhaust all lines of investigation, including the political motive.
While justice advances slowly, popular indignation remains. This Sunday, one more march was held in Uruapan, where the population mobilized to ask that the mayor’s legacy not fall into oblivion and for justice.

MUD CAMPAIGN
Following massive protests over crime, the current mayor, Grecia Quiroz and the Hat Movement have been the subject of a smear campaign.
The offensive has manifested itself on several fronts, but escalated this weekend with the dissemination of a fake video that showed Manzo’s widow with deputy Carlos Bautista Tafolla, material denied as a fake generated with Artificial Intelligence.
In the political sphere, Senator Gerardo Fernández Noroña attacked the councilor, calling her “ambitious” and “fascist” for pointing out Godoy and Morón as responsible for the crime.
In addition to this, the director of the IMPI, Santiago Nieto, reported, irregularly, that the municipal president requested the registration of her husband’s name and the Independent Hat Movement, as a trademark.
CONTEMPT IN THE FACE OF INSECURITY
In an interview with this medium, the consultant on security issues, Víctor Manuel Ornelas, considered that the federal government’s response to this case results in “contempt for the needs of the people of Michoacán and, above all, of the mayor’s widow (…) it seems to me that the saddest part is seeing the response of the Mexican State in the face of an event that increasingly permeates most of the country.”
He considered that there is a smear campaign against Grecia Quiroz and La Sombreriza, which seeks to “prevent a project different from Morena’s from advancing; it is beginning to be valued for the different way of doing things.”
