The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MNE) said, this Sunday, November 30, that there is no record of any situation with Portuguese residents in Venezuela that would justify alarm, one day after the North American President announced that Venezuelan airspace was closed.
“So far there is no situation that justifies alarm,” the MNE said in a statement, adding that “as for contingency plans, which the Portuguese State always has for different situations, these are naturally reserved matters.”
The ministry led by Paulo Rangel also recommended that national citizens residing in Venezuela keep their contacts updated, to “guarantee effective and timely communication with Portuguese consular services whenever necessary”.
The note states that the embassy and consulates general are in permanent contact with Portuguese residents in Venezuela, as part of their mission of permanent support to the community.
The consulates general of Portugal in the Venezuelan cities of Caracas and Valencia provided emergency telephone channels for Portuguese people living in Venezuela, with the aim of guaranteeing protection and assistance to their compatriots.
