Eduardo Santos Silva Hospital, in Gaia, departed on Tuesday, October 7, the existence of negligence in the case of the baby who was born on Saturday, in full receipt of the emergencies, having, according to the father, beaten with his head on the floor.

According to Ana Margarida Fernandes, clinical director of ULS de Gaia/Espinho, the “medical team was soon activated” – “there is no medical team at the hospital door” – and acted according to the protocol, having given a wheelchair to the woman.

The baby’s father, Frederico Fernandes, had complained to RTP for a delay in providing care to women, namely not giving him a stretcher (but the wheelchair) and even asked him to take a password. This at a time when, according to him, the child was born.

According to Frederico Fernandes, the baby ended up falling head on the floor. He also said that he had already filed a complaint to the hospital, the general inspection of health activities (Igas) and the Order of Doctors, alleging violation of emergency protocols.

ULS de Gaia/Espinho clinical director said the hospital has not yet received any formal complaints and that inquiries and procedures and procedures revisions are underway to find out whether, in fact, the baby fell headfirst to the ground, and there is no testimonies that corroborate this accusation.

The guardian assured that the baby and mother are well, having the child discharged from the neonatology unit and being with the parent. Ana Margarida Fernandes recalled that deliveries are very unpredictable clinical situations and that everything happened in a few minutes. It justified the fact that the woman was sent home after her first observation, with the usual clinical recommendations, as she resides near the hospital.
