On Tuesday night, three armed men attacked the ARAG jewelrylocated inside the San Jerónimo shopping center, in the Álvaro Obregón mayor’s office. The criminals, dressed in black sweatshirts and hoods, threatened the employees and broke the display cases to steal various pieces of gold.
According to the first police reports, the robbery occurred around 7:00 p.m., when the subjects entered the establishment and began taking watches, bracelets and chains. During the assault, guards from a securities transfer company who were at the scene fired at least three shots at the roof of the premises in order to scare away the assailants. No injuries were reported.
After the exchange, the attackers fled on two motorcycles, which were abandoned a few streets from the shopping center, according to the first versions collected at the site.
The Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) reported that the incident was detected by operators of the Command and Control Center (C2) Poniente, who sent support units to the crossing of Periférico Sur and San Jerónimo, in the Jardines del Pedregal neighborhoodwhere the theft was confirmed.
At the scene, an employee told the agents that the assailants acted in a matter of seconds, breaking display cases and taking the merchandise before escaping. The uniformed officers guided the manager of the establishment to present the formal complaint to the Public Ministry.
Staff of the SSC is already analyzing the recordings from the cameras video surveillance of the shopping center and the area to try to identify those responsible and determine their escape route.
So far, no arrests or recovery of stolen items have been reported. The ministerial authority will continue with the corresponding investigations.
