Expressing its strong condemnation of the violence recorded during the manifestation of Generation Z On November 15, the Mexican Bar, Bar Associationassured that the fundamental rights of various people who exercised, “the vast majority, their right to free expression and protest through an essentially peaceful and organic social demonstration” were violated.
Through their social networks, they published a letter signed by the president of that institution, Ana Maria Kudisch Castelló in which they emphasized the importance of distinguishing between the legitimate and peaceful protest of citizens and the violence generated to try to delegitimize this demonstration through the vandalism committed by the so-called “black bloc.”

For this reason, they called on the competent authorities in matters of public security in Mexico City “so that, in the next mobilizations called by various means, among them the one scheduled for November 20the action protocols that guarantee the free expression of ideas, as well as the integrity of people, are respected.”

They also requested that the Mexico City Attorney General’s Office “fully guarantee the human rights of all detaineesincluding their personal integrity, immediate access to defense and communication with their families, in compliance with the American Convention on Human Rights, the United Nations Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
They considered it essential to highlight that peaceful social protest is a fundamental right and an essential mechanism of citizen participation within any democracy. “Its effective protection constitutes an essential requirement for the validity of the Rule of Law in Mexico”.
