With the statutory resolution for the development plan for the Grenzhof area, Memmingen has taken a significant step in urban development. In the coming years, a diverse neighborhood is to be created on an area of around 3.9 hectares that includes both residential and commercial space. The planned 430 apartments will be realized as a mix of owner-occupied and subsidized rental apartments, which appeals to a broad target group.
The project is being implemented by i+R Wohnbau Lindau in close cooperation with the city of Memmingen. The design, which was developed in 2022 by a+r architects and factorgrün landscape architects, envisages a modern and sustainable development. The buildings will be equipped with photovoltaic systems and offer a high quality of life thanks to green roofs and spacious open spaces.
Particular attention is paid to the district’s energy supply. A specially constructed local heating network is intended to ensure environmentally friendly heating, while the photovoltaic systems on the roofs provide environmentally friendly electricity. The largely car-free zone also contributes to a clean and quiet environment, which makes the area particularly attractive.
The development of the Grenzhof area is not only an urban development project, but also a social project. With facilities such as a daycare center, retail, restaurants and medical care, an infrastructure is created that promotes the coexistence of different generations.
