Maduro pledges resistance, and Cuba warns of American “madness.” news

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro renewed his pledge to defend his country’s sovereignty in the face of what he described as “the imperialist threats of the extreme right” as the possibilities of the United States launching military attacks on the country increased, while Cuba accused the United States of seeking to overthrow the Maduro government by force.

Maduro affirmed – during a massive public gathering called for by the leadership of the ruling Socialist Party in support of the president and rejection of American threats, yesterday, Tuesday – that the Venezuelan people “will defend their country’s sovereignty against any aggression” and that “victory will be the nation’s ally.”

He added that the United States will not be able to control his country “no matter what it does and no matter how,” stressing that Venezuela is “invincible.”

Maduro explained – in a televised statement on Tuesday – that his country is facing a “multilateral attack” from Washington, in light of the large-scale military movements carried out by the United States in the Caribbean region.

The Venezuelan president added: “They will not be able to defeat Venezuela, and just as they failed before, they will never succeed again.”

‘A very dangerous step’

For its part, Cuba accused the United States of seeking to overthrow the Maduro government by force, considering that American military movements in the region represent an “exaggerated and aggressive threat.”

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said – in a statement – that any attempt to overthrow the Venezuelan government would be “an extremely dangerous and irresponsible step” and constitutes “a flagrant violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.”

Informed American sources said last week that Washington held a series of high-level meetings in the past few days at the White House to discuss options for possible military operations against Venezuela, including direct military intervention and seeking to overthrow Maduro, despite repeated statements by US President Donald Trump denying his attempt to change the regime in Caracas.

In contrast, Maduro confirmed that the Trump administration is “working to bring him down,” stressing that the Venezuelans and the army “will resist any attempt at external interference.”

The Cuban Foreign Minister warned that the continuation of this path “may lead to countless victims and unleash unimaginable scenarios of violence and chaos,” calling on the American people to “put an end to what he described as madness.”

American military buildup

It is noteworthy that Washington had sent military reinforcements to the region, including F-35 fighter planes, warships, and a nuclear submarine, after strikes carried out by American forces during the past two months against boats off the coast of Venezuela.

The aircraft carrier “Gerald Ford” also entered the Latin American region a few days ago, carrying more than 75 aircraft and more than 5,000 soldiers.

Last August, US President Donald Trump issued an executive order to increase the use of the army under the pretext of combating drug cartels in Latin America.

On the other hand, President Nicolas Maduro announced the mobilization of forces numbering 4.5 million people in preparation to repel any attack.
