LIVERPOOL.- The Liverpool gave a blow of authority in the Champions League by defeating 1-0 Real Madrid at Anfield, in an intense duel corresponding to Matchday 4 of the League Phase.
With this result, those led by Arne Slot reached 9 points and tied the meringues in the first places, in addition to giving them their first setback in the continental tournament this season.
After a game with little clarity in attack, those led by Xabi Alonso lost the perfect pace in the UEFA Champions League 2025-26while the Reds managed to get into the first eight in the standings.
Goal options were scarce in the first minutes, however, those led by Arne Slot had the first opportunity and it was one of the clearest of the game. At 26′, after a high-speed offensive transition, Florian Wirtz made a precise pass to Dominik Szoboszlai, who in front of the goal and without a mark could not score the goal, as Thibaut Courtois corrected the ball and prevented his goal from falling.
In the same first half, a handball by Aurélien Tchouameni in the area was reviewed by the VAR as a possible penalty, but it was not enough to score, as the French midfielder had it stuck to his body.
For the second half, the narrative was maintained, as there were no obvious scoring options, until the 60th minute. Due to a set piece in which Dominik Szoboszlai centered, it was Alexis Mac Allister who finished with a header in the six-yard box, thus beating the Belgian goalkeeper and making it 1-0 that made Anfield explode.
After putting himself at a disadvantage, Xabi Alonso made a change by bringing in Rodrygo after the departure of Eduardo Camavinga. Even so, the white team could not find space or clarity on offense. Later, the Spanish strategist sent Brahim Díaz and Trent Alexander Arnold onto the field, who was booed on his return to Anfield.
For the next Champions League date, the merengue squad will visit Olympiakos on Wednesday, November 26. On the other hand, Liverpool will host PSV Eindhoven on the same day at Anfield.
