Washington- Public opinion in America is looking forward to revealing the contents of the private files of convicted sexual assaulter Jeffrey Epstein, after President Donald Trump agreed to publish them under great pressure and a torrent of leaks that suggest the possibility of an ethical scandal erupting that brings to mind other files that occurred during the era of former presidents, including Bill Clinton, John Kennedy, and others.
Last Wednesday, Trump signed legislation requiring his administration to publish the files on the Epstein case, under strong political pressure from within his party and from other circles, after he opposed this step despite his electoral promises to unveil those files.
The Justice Department has less than a month to publish the unclassified documents in its possession about Epstein, whose suicide in his prison cell in 2019 sparked many conspiracy theories that he was killed to prevent him from revealing embarrassing secrets of prominent figures from the worlds of politics, finance, and art.
American media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, published reports indicating that Trump’s name appeared in Epstein’s documents against the backdrop of their relationship from the late 1980s until their dispute at the beginning of this century, years before Epstein was convicted of running a sex trafficking network that included underage girls.
Trump has consistently denied any knowledge of Epstein’s sexual exploitation activities, and said that their relationship became tense years before Epstein’s crimes were exposed.
Involvement of prominent figures
The case is still shrouded in ambiguity regarding the extent of the involvement of prominent figures in it, and that ambiguity is likely to continue due to the complexities and ramifications of this file, which has turned into what the Washington Post described as a political fireball being fought between the Republican and Democratic parties.
In the midst of this controversy, Democrats published emails from Epstein’s estate that included references to President Trump, to which Republicans responded by publishing messages that increased the ambiguity of the issue and the extent of media excitement before any decisive information on the matter emerged.
Earlier, President Trump asked Attorney General Pam Bondi and the FBI to investigate links between Epstein, former Democratic President Bill Clinton, and other prominent figures from the Democratic Party.
It is expected that the case will enter a new turn with the start of the publication of documents related to it and the emergence of the identities of those directly involved in it, necessitating legal accountability. At that time, the fireball will turn into political and judicial conflagrations in a new chapter of the many moral scandals that shook the White House in previous times.

Trump impeachment
The most memorable of these cases is the trial of President Donald Trump on charges of covering up money he paid to buy the silence of porn star Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election campaign.
This case entered the judiciary after Trump left the White House at the end of his first term (2017-2021), and the court did not say the final word until less than two weeks before Trump assumed his duties during his second term.
In that file, a judicial ruling was issued against President Trump for unconditional release after he was convicted of the charge attributed to him, despite the efforts he made to avoid becoming the first convict in the White House.

Clinton and Lewinsky
While waiting for the secrets of the Epstein case files to be revealed and its potential judicial and political repercussions, one recalls a heavy moral scandal that erupted in the late 1990s against the backdrop of a relationship between President Clinton and White House intern Monica Lewinsky (then 22 years old).
This relationship dates back to the period between 1995 and 1996, but it did not come to light until 1998 in the midst of investigations into other cases involving Clinton since he was governor of Arkansas.
This case received widespread domestic and international attention, and the House of Representatives got involved and voted to begin impeachment proceedings against Clinton in late 1998 on charges of perjury and obstruction of justice before the Senate failed to convict him in February 1999 following a trial that lasted for several weeks and received unprecedented media follow-up.
Because of this moral scandal, Clinton became the second American president to be subject to impeachment procedures after President Richard Nixon, who resigned from office in 1974 against the backdrop of the political scandal known as Watergate, in which Nixon was proven involved in spying on the offices of the rival Democratic Party.
Clinton’s popularity declined significantly following his parliamentary “trial” without this affecting his political fate because he was nearing the end of his second term and his marital relationship withstood that media and political hurricane.
It is not unlikely that President Clinton’s name will return to the forefront in the coming weeks with the start of the publication of the Epstein files in light of the confirmed information about joint travel between the two men, and the related speculation and doubts.

Kennedy and Monroe
Several decades before the Lewinsky case, there were many doubts about the behavior of President John Kennedy (1961-1963), and there were allegations that he had many extramarital affairs, but they did not amount to media and political scandals at the time.
Whenever Kennedy’s name was raised, rumors came to mind about his relationship with the famous actress Marilyn Monroe, who had visits to the White House at some social events, and many conspiracy theories circulated about the circumstances of her death.
Before Kennedy, President Warren Harding (1865-1923) entered the scandal code with a torrent of love affairs, and it was proven after his death that he was paying secret money to his mistresses, including one who was 30 years younger than him.
It was also confirmed that President Harding, who died while serving, was providing for a child he had born out of wedlock, but these ethical issues were not revealed at the time, but it was known that administrative and financial corruption was rampant in the administration of that Republican president who ruled the country for less than 3 years.
