The legal situation between the governments of Zacatecas y San Luis Potosi remains tense with the formal start of the accusatory criminal process against the four Potosí police officers who were detained in Zacatecas territory, who are related to the abandonment of seven bodies, that were located on a property in the Zacatecas municipality of Town of Cos. It is expected that this Tuesday a Control Judge will resolve whether or not they are linked to proceedings for the crime of forced disappearance.

The discovery of the seven bodies has also generated a dispute between the two governments, since neither has counted these murders in their statistics and this has been reflected in the reports of the National Report on Intentional Homicides published daily by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection and the Institutional Group.

At least, On November 23, the day the bodies were found, Zacatecas reported only one intentional homicide and San Luis Potosí two. In the subsequent days, both entities reported between zero and three cases daily.

It is worth mentioning that The discovery occurred on a dirt road that leads to the community of Cervantes, in Villa de Cos, which connects with the community of Salado, belonging to the municipality of Santo Domingo de San Luis Potosí.

The prosecutor of Zacatecas, Cristian Camacho Osnaya, has insisted that, although the place where the bodies were found was in Zacatecas territory, the proceedings show that the bodies were abandoned in that place, but that “the victims were deprived of their lives in a different place,” Therefore, an investigation is being carried out, together with the San Luis Potosí prosecutor’s office, to determine where the homicides occurred.

Regarding the case of the police officers who were detained by elements of the Zacatecas Immediate Reaction Force (FRIZ), the prosecutor mentioned that the arrest is justified, because a few meters away A gray van was detained, which did not have any visible sign identifying it as a unit of any security institution, where three men and a woman who identified themselves as agents of the San Luis Potosí State Civil Guard were traveling. But, upon inspecting said vehicle, they found traces of blood.

So far, the Zacatecas authorities have not provided further information on the progress and expert results, under the argument that secrecy must be maintained so as not to hinder the process or the investigation. However, sources consulted confirmed that the forensic studies carried out on the traces of blood found in the vehicle where the Potosí police were traveling have already been completed. It is presumed that one of the seven bodies tested positive, whose results have already been integrated into the research folder as scientific evidence.

Last Wednesday the investigation file was prosecuted and the criminal accusatory process against the four police officers began. In the initial hearing they were already asked the accusation of crimes binding on forced disappearance.

It will be until Tuesday, in the follow-up hearing, for a judge to determine the legal situation of the detainees. It is unknown if the Potosí government continues to provide legal support to its elements, in terms of the legal defense that is representing them during the criminal trial they face in Zacatecas.
