The former governor of Veracruz, Javier Duarte de Ochoa, will continue in the North Prison after a federal judge rejected his request for early release. The resolution was issued this Friday by Judge Ángela Zamorano Herrera, who determined that the former president does not comply with the conditions established in the Criminal Execution Law.
During a hearing of just over an hour, the judge declared his request inadmissible, pointing out that Duarte still has a criminal case in force, which prevents him from accessing the benefit. He former governor faces an accusation of forced disappearance related to the case of a taxi driver.
Although a judge previously decided not to link him to the process, the Veracruz Prosecutor’s Office challenged the decision and the matter is still pending resolution in Court.
Prior to the hearing, his defense, led by Lawyer Pablo Campuzano announced that if they did not obtain a favorable ruling they would analyze appealing to a higher court..
