The Iztacalco Mayor’s Office held a massive soccer class with girls, boys and young people from the region as part of the activities leading up to the largest soccer class in the world, scheduled for next February 22, 2026.
The event was led by the mayor Lourdes Paz Reyes and the general director of Sports Institute of Mexico City, Javier Peralta Pérez, who highlighted the joint drive to strengthen physical activity and community life in the city’s public spaces.
The general director of INDEPORT He thanked the invitation and celebrated that Iztacalco has spaces full of sports and recreation. He noted that the city is preparing for the largest soccer class in the world and sent a greeting on behalf of the Head of Government, recognizing the mayor as a great promoter of sports in the capital. He also invited the community to join this international activity on February 22, 2026.
In her speech, the mayor Lourdes Paz Reyes He highlighted the importance of football as a tool for unity and citizen participation ahead of the World Cup. He recalled that Mexico will host this World Cup again and stated that in Iztacalco the football festival will also be experienced from community spaces. He explained that, as part of the program announced by the Head of Government, the city will have 300 popular soccer fields and that Iztacalco will have 15 of them for residents to participate in tournaments between neighborhoods, markets and local leagues.

The mayor also announced that four new fields will be inaugurated in the Magdalena Mixhucaintended for the use of the community and for sports activities towards the World. He pointed out that citizens have the right to experience this festival “from the neighborhood and from the neighborhood,” including massive events to support the Mexican National Teamsuch as the installation of a mega screen at Magdalena Mixhuca on match days.
During the day, activities were carried out such as the signing of the official ball, the presentation of the mascot and the inaugural kick that marked the start of the class at 9:30 am.

With this event, Iztacalco reaffirms its commitment to promoting sport, recreation and community participation, consolidating itself as one of the most active municipalities in preparation for the World Cup.
