The agreement with IPN cleaning workers included regularization of cleaning tasks and academic activities next Monday.


After days of mobilizations and blockades in Mexico City, members of the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN), representatives of the contracting company and the cleaning workers union reached a final agreement.

The agreement included that cleaning tasks and academic activities will be fully regularized starting next Monday, November 24.

Another of the central points of the agreement establishes the immediate payment of the first fortnight of November to the affected employees, thereby keeping the workers’ payroll up to date and fulfilling the main demand that motivated the protests.

The demonstrations

Hundreds of cleaning workers who provide their services at different campuses of the National Polytechnic Institute closed traffic on key roads in the capital, including the Interior Circuit.

Among their demands was the direct intervention of the IPN to resolve the non-compliance of the private company under which they are contracted, so, under pressure and a negotiation and agreement, the protesters lifted the blockades.

IPN authorities assured that after the reestablishment of the cleaning and hygiene service in the facilities, optimal conditions exist to receive the student and teaching community next Monday in all their study centers.
