He Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) recently implemented a mandatory system of biometric verification for pensioners of the Law 73 and Law 97 regimesthrough its IMSS Digital application. The measure has generated doubts among the beneficiaries, especially about the consequences of not carrying out this registration, which includes fingerprint and facial recognition.

This update is part of the institute’s actions to strengthen security in procedures and payments, and is already in operation throughout the country.

Mandatory biometric registration in IMSS Digital

The process is carried out exclusively through the IMSS Digital application, in its most recent version.

To start registration, the pensioner must enter their CURP, Social Security Number and an active email, subsequently, the app requests to capture the fingerprint and an image of the face, in order to generate a unique biometric identification

This verification is part of the new authentication system that the IMSS uses to validate the identity of those who receive a monthly pension. and, in addition, it will allow access to the Digital Health Card, where clinical information such as prescriptions, disabilities and laboratory results will be concentrated.

The objective of the institution is to digitize procedures and services, as well as reduce risks related to identity theft.

Consequences of not recording biometric data

The IMSS has established that biometric validation is not optional: it is a requirement essential to continue receiving the monthly pension.

If registration is not completed, payments will be temporarily suspended until the pensioner validates his or her identity in the application.

In addition to affecting the monthly deposit, non-compliance also limits access to digital procedures related to the pension, such as checking history, receipts or movements. It will also not be possible to use the Digital Health Card or other services that depend on biometric identity.

Although there are no additional financial sanctions, the suspension of payment and the inability to access key services represent significant consequences for beneficiaries.

The IMSS insists that the purpose of the system is not to create obstacles, but to prevent fraud, protect sensitive data and ensure that the resources reach the legitimate beneficiary directly.
