The head of the Ministry of Security in Mexico, Omar García Harfuchassured this Saturday that Work will be done to improve surveillance on the country’s roads, after meeting with transporters who recently participated in a national strike along with rural producers.

Through a message on X, Harfuch indicated that, on instructions from the president Claudia Sheinbaumhe The meeting allowed us to agree on the commitment to “strengthen road safety and provide greater protection to the sector.”

Likewise, he explained that, together with the National guard and the Ministry of the Interior (Segob)it was agreed to “strengthen the coordination mechanisms, follow up on the investigation folders in the prosecutor’s offices and strengthen the operations in the sections with the highest incidence.”

In addition, he announced that actions will be integrated into the National Strategy against Extortion to address complaints about this crime.

Finally, he assured that continuous meetings will be held with representatives of chambers and motor transport associations “to follow up on the agreements and guarantee results.”

The meeting occurred after a national strike carried out by transporters and farmers throughout the country, from last Monday, November 24 to Thursday, November 27.which included the blocking of different roads and border customs.

Announcing the withdrawal of the blockades after reaching a preliminary agreement with the government, on Thursday, David Estévez, president of the National Association of Transporters (ANTAC)said that although they are not “totally satisfied” they managed to get the government to commit to addressing the insecurity on the country’s roads.

Among its main demands, Transport operators demand to improve road safety, after the increase in crimes and disappearances of transporters in different states of the country.

While farmers demand fairer prices for their production and that the new General Water Law not be approved, by which concessions for the use of water cannot be exchanged between individuals, with the obligation that it be National Water Commission (Conagua) the one who distributes them again.
