Greenpeace has drawn attention to the urgent need for increased climate protection measures with a spectacular projection on the Berlin television tower. In the early hours of the morning, several projectors turned the tower’s silver dome into a burning globe. This powerful display was intended to underline the urgency of the issue and draw attention to the upcoming UN Climate Change Conference in Belém, Brazil.
The environmental organization projected the appeal “Act Now” onto the tower’s shaft to emphasize the urgency of immediate action. This action lasted from 6:00 to 7:00 a.m. before police called for the projection to end. Greenpeace is also making this appeal directly to Chancellor Friedrich Merz to demand more ambitious climate goals from Germany and the EU.
Greenpeace criticizes the fact that Germany and the EU are traveling to the world climate conference with a weak climate target. The organization demands that the EU states show courage and support the phase-out of coal, oil and gas that was decided two years ago. In addition, the protection of forests should be consistently implemented in order to position Europe as a responsible actor in global climate protection.
The projection on the Berlin TV tower is part of a larger campaign by Greenpeace to raise awareness of the climate crisis and urge political decision-makers to take concrete action. The organization emphasizes that Europe must lead the way in providing hope in a warming world and promoting sustainable solutions.
