Mexico City.- From September 2024 to date, a total of 70 public servants have requested escorts for their protection against possible risks, reported the head of the Secretariat of National Defense, General Ricardo Trevilla. In response, the National Guard has deployed 70 security teams, made up of approximately 450 elements, during the president’s government. Claudia Sheinbaum.
During the morning conference, Trevilla specified that the requests come from officials at different levels of government. Although the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzowhich occurred on November 1, generated concern, the general clarified that there has been no recent increase in requests for protection. “A large number of applications have not been received in recent days, but we are attentive,” he said.
In his intervention, the military command indicated that the procedure for granting escorts begins with a formal request, followed by a risk analysis. The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection issues a technical opinion, the threat level is determined and, based on this, the service is assigned.
The deployment of bodyguards reflects the climate of insecurity faced by local authorities in various regions of the country. Although the federal government has reiterated its commitment to protecting officials at risk, the number of requests confirms the persistence of threats, especially in areas with the presence of organized crime.
The Sedena and the National Guard The evaluation and response protocols are kept active, while new requests that may arise in the event of political violence or direct threats are monitored.
