Georgia Tech has taken a significant step toward solidifying its role as a leading center for research implementation and startup growth with the launch of Velocity Startups. This new accelerator serves as a bridge for founders of early-stage startups who want to scale their companies and prepare for later stages. Velocity Startups will be located in Atlanta’s Tech Square, a national innovation district known for fostering community growth and meaningful innovation.
Donnie Beamer, Senior Technology Advisor in the Atlanta Mayor’s Office, emphasized the importance of this initiative: “Atlanta is the place where innovation becomes opportunity, and Velocity Startups will make that journey even faster. By connecting entrepreneurs with the critical resources they need to scale, we power more startups, create more jobs and promote economic growth.”
Velocity Startups offers a variety of resources including mentorship, space, tools, networks and infrastructure to bridge the gap between spin-offs and marketable startups. Many startups who complete the CREATE-X Startup Launch program at Georgia Tech and attend Demo Day gain access to Velocity Startups. The accelerator will also provide strategic programs, funding and access to Georgia Tech’s research resources and serve as a coordinating entity for Metro Atlanta’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
