More than 150 people demonstrated this Saturday, October 18, in northern Germany demanding that Christian Brückner, the main suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, be removed from the area where you live. The information was provided by Sky News.
Brückner, 48, is identified by German police as the man who may have kidnapped the three-year-old British girl from her parents’ holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve, a famous case that occurred in 2007. The suspect denies any involvement.
Among the protesters was Alex Ehmke, 49, who, quoted by Sky News, said he understood “the need to reintegrate ex-convicts into society”, but stressed that “there is a difference between that and allowing someone like that to walk around in such a bold way”.
Christian B. was released from prison in September, after serving a seven-year sentence for raping a woman, also in Praia da Luz, in 2005. Since then, he has faced difficulties in finding accommodation, being expelled from hotels and shelters when recognized.
During the protest, one of the protesters, Annika P., stated: “We are here today because we need to raise our voices: for our children, for our families and for the safety of our streets and neighborhoods.”
Denise P., aged 38, added: “I’m not against reintegration, but someone like him should be detained preventively or, at least, in a place where he can be watched by professionals. The electronic bracelet is not enough”, he stressed.
