Marshawn Kneeland, a player for the Dallas Cowboys football team, was found dead, aged 24, in an apparent suicide, according to police in Frisco, a suburb of Dallas.

Kneeland, a Cowboys defensive lineman, was found dead after fleeing authorities in his car and escaping the scene of an accident on foot.

According to authorities, Kneeland failed to stop for Texas Department of Public Safety agents during a police pursuit on the evening of Wednesday, November 5.

Police lost sight of the player’s vehicle before locating it in an accident minutes later. Kneeland fled the scene of the accident and was found dead on Thursday morning, about three hours after the accident. During the search for the player, authorities received information that Kneeland may be suicidal.

The player’s death comes just days after playing in a 27-17 defeat against the Arizona Cardinals.

Kneeland was in his second season with the Dallas Cowboys, having been selected in the second round of last year’s draft from Western Michigan.

“It is with deep sadness that I confirm the death of my client and dear friend Marshawn Kneeland last night. Marshawn dedicated his body and soul to every play, every practice and every moment on the field. Losing someone with his talent, spirit and kindness is a pain I can barely describe,” said agent Jonathan Perzley, in a statement asking for privacy.
