The executive president (CEO) of CTT stated this Tuesday, 4th, that the current financing model for the universal postal service will no longer be viable after 2028, so it is necessary to find new ways to finance it.
João Bento was speaking at CTT’s Capital Markets Day 2025, during which the management team is presenting the strategy and objectives for the 2026-28 three-year period.
“It is our strong conviction, I would say it is my absolute personal certainty, that the current financing model for the Universal Postal Service will no longer be viable after 2028”, stated the manager.
The CEO of CTT justified this conviction with the fact that volumes are “falling so much” that prices will become “disproportionately high”.
Therefore, “there is a need – and we have been working on this consistently – to find new forms of financing” for the universal postal service (SPU).
“This is one of the things that, in this regard, needs to be done and started over the next strategic period”, added João Bento.
CTT aims to achieve leadership in Iberian e-commerce logistics in the three-year period 2026-28.
