8 months after the formal start of the event, the Coyoacán mayor’s office was formally declared ready to receive visitors to the Soccer World Cup 2026, with the promise of being “the best hosts in the world.”

This was announced by the mayor Giovani Gutierrezin his first Government report, in the vicinity of the Aztec Stadiumwhere the opening match of the 2026 World Cup will be played.
“In a matter of months, our beloved mayor’s office will host the World Cup, for the third time, and we will be in the eyes of the entire planet. We formally declare ourselves ready to receive millions of visitors, we will be the best hosts,” he assured.
In an interview with the media, after his report, the mayor of Coyoacan reported that the works contemplated for the World They will be works that last and must be ready in March, for the reopening match of the Stadium, Mexico vs. Portugal.
“We have a table of times and tasks, where we know which streets we still need to repave… the inaugural match in the Azteca Stadium is on March 28, so we have to be ready for that date. After finishing the World Cup we continue working, it is a public work that lasts,” he mentioned.
Mayor of Coyoacán highlights achievements in security and combating “chelerías”
In his report, Mayor Giovani Gutiérrez reported a 27 percent decrease in high-impact crime incidence in the district, while highlighting the Coyoacán Shield strategy and collaboration with local and federal authorities.
“Today we live in a safer mayor’s office, that is also thanks to the joint work with the Navy, National Guard, Sedena and the Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC),” he stated.

Likewise, he highlighted the implementation of actions such as devices against illegal chelerías and the scrapping of disused vehicles to recover spaces.
