The silence of the early morning was broken by a burst of gunshots in the community of Santa María Ajoloapan, municipality of Tecámacwhere a couple was the victim of a violent armed attack.
It was around 2:00 in the morning on Friday when neighbors heard the explosions on Hidalgo Avenue and, upon leaving, they found a young man lying on the pavement next to a seriously injured teenager.
The victims were identified as Jesús Félix, 24, who lost his life at the scene, and Arely, 15, who was helped by Civil Protection paramedics and rushed to the Hospital de Las Américas.
According to the first reports, both were walking in the area when a group of subjects approached in a vehicle and opened fire without saying a word.
The attack sparked outrage among the town’s inhabitants, who accuse that insecurity has become unbearable. “Not a week goes by here without shootings or assaults. The patrols only appear when there are already dead people,” said Don Raúl Martínez, a resident of the place, angrily. “They promise security, but they only react to quell the scandal, not to prevent it,” he added.
Elements of the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico They arrived at the site to remove the body and begin investigations. Although a search operation was carried out, it was not possible to locate those responsible, who fled in an unknown direction.
Crime joins the growing list of armed attacks in the Valley of Mexico, where criminal disputes and the absence of effective surveillance have turned the streets into the scene of recurring violence. Neighbors warn that, if the authorities do not act firmly, the tragedy could be repeated on any corner.
